The Third European Cadet Championship in the history took start in Bourges (France). At the first day of the tournament went two finals – in Women's foil Individual and Men’s epee Individual.

Women's foil showed a huge advantage of Italian fencers. Three representatives of this country achieved final four. The only non-Italian in this company became Viktoriya Alekseeva from Russia. She could reach final by defeating Francesca Palumbo 9:8 in the semis. But in the decisive duel Olga Calissi (on the foto) left no chance for the Russian - 15:7. The bronze medals went to Alice Volpi and Francesca Palumbo.

Men's epee individual final was also held with participation of Russian fencer - Vadim Anokhin. His rival was Frenchmen Pierre Haxaire. The result of their stubborn struggle was the victory of Haxaire - 15:12, who brought the first gold medal to the host country. Bronze went to Laurent Clenin (Switzerland) and Szabolocs Jozsef Böjte (Hungary).
