Russia and France receive congratulations
4 March 2009
At the third day of European Cadet Championships in Bourges (France) took start first team competitions – in Women’s foil and Men’s epee. The victory celebrated Russian foilists and French epeeists.

In Women’s foil the main favorite seemed to be Italian team – “scuadra azzura” had three medalists in individual competition in its staff. But they unexpectedly lost semifinal to Hungary – 41:45, and could win only bronze. In the final, unfortunately, was no struggle. There were three duels untill the end, but Russian team already got double advantage over their rivals from Hungary – 30:15. As a result the final ended with the score 45:32 and Russia received its first gold at this tournament.

But surprises didn’t finish with Women’s foil. In Men’s epee Denmark could reach final four. This team wasn’t considered to be the challenger for the medals. At least, Danish fencers couldn’t reach the podium: they lost semifinal to France – 31:45; match for the third place – to Italy 39:45. The champions became French epeeists by defeating Hungarians – 45:39. By the way, Pierre Haxaire, the leader of the French team, won his second gold medal at this Championship. Two days ago he took first place in individual competition.
