5 March 2009
At 5th of March Italian fencers won at once four medals at European Cadet Championships in Bourges (France). They’ve got gold, silver and bronze in Men’s foil individual and one more bronze – in Women’s sabre individual.

Seemed that the result of the Italian Women's foil team, which had won gold and two bronze medals at first competitions' day, would be hard to perfect. But their compatriots and colleagues by the weapon could do it.

In Men's foil individual Italians won gold, silver and bronze. The champion became Edoardo Luperi. In the final duel he defeated Daniele Garozzo - 15:12. By the way, Garozzo reached up the podium at the last year's tournament also - that time he finished third. From the start of European Cadet Championships Italians didn't lose gold in this discipline: in 2007 the winner was Tommazo Lari, in 2008 - Michele di Francisca.

Italian fencers had a chance to get a second gold medal. But last year's champion in women's sabre individual, Caterina Navarria, lost in the semis to Hungarian Kata Varhelyi - 12:15. So, Hungarian sabre fencer could make the revenge for the defeat in European Cadet Championships - 2008 final. But today Varhelyi, at last, became the winner of this tournament. In the decisive duel she defeated Anna German from Russia - 15:10.
