The hosts of the competition won exactly the half of the gold medals. The champions became Hungarian sabre fencers Aron Szilagyi and Reka Peto, epeeist Mark Hanczwikkel.
The foil fencer Dmitry Zherebchenko and epeeist Olga Kochneva won two gold medals for Russia. Incidentally, Zherebchenko was the only fencer to repeat the success he celebrated at the first European U23 Championships.
One more gold went to Italian foilist Martina Batini.
