European Veterans Individual Championships 2009 ended in Balatonfüred (Hungary). The competition was held in 24 nominations and 96 medals were on.

The tournament was taken in all types of weapon in four age categories: I (40-49 years), II (50-59 years), III (60-69 years) и IV (beyond 70).

The best result was shown by German fencers. They won 28 medals - 6 golden, 10 silver and 12 bronze. 5 golden medals went to Great Britain, 4 - to Italy. By the way the awards of this tournament were won by the fencers from 18 countries. And the veterans from 30 countries took part in European Championships - this is the new record of such competitions.

We won't list all owners of the golden medals. But we can't help mentioning the British sabre fencer Richard Cohen. The competitor of three Olympic Games (1972, 1976, 1984), he became eightfold Champion of Veterans Championships. In 1993 and 1995 he won the tournaments in the I age category; in 1997, 2001, 2003 and 2005 was the best in the II category, in 2007 and 2009 - in the III category.

The result of the Swiss epeeist Peter Bucher also can't be taken without admiration. For the third time in a row he became Champion among the fencers of the category IV - beyond 70.
