This day of the European Fencing Championships in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) brought gold to the Beijing Olympic Champion, German epeeist Britta Heidemann, and Italian foilist Andrea Baldini, who couldn’t take part in last Olympics because of disqualification.

Semifinals in men’s individual foil haven’t been composed as usual. Exactly half of places in the final four were occupied with representatives of Great Britain – Richard Kruse and Laurence Halsted. The other two were Italian Andrea Baldini and Andre Wessels from Germany. And Baldini appeared to be the best of this quartet. With the identical score – 15:7 – he defeated first Wessels, then Kruse.

In the key duel of women’s individual epee two Olympic Champions met. Britta Heidemann (Germany) won this title in Beijing in individual tournament. And Russian Anna Sivkova joined the team, which became the best in Athens-2004. The final clash passed with the advantage of the German epeeist. In the beginning of the second period she led five touches – 6:1 – and as a result ended the duel with 15:8 win.

So after two days of the competition Italian team has two golden medals; Russia and Germany – in ones.
