Through the last years the Italian foilists had won all main titles in individual competitions. But in the team tournaments they always failed to win "gold". For the last time they won the World Championship in 2004, the European Championship – in 2005. And in Bulgaria this unpleasant tradition for Italy had, at least, been interrupted. In final they defeated Russia – 45:36 – and became the best team of the continent.

Very interesting and equal was the key duel between Italy and Romania in Men's sabre team competition. For the long time the teams were alternately coming forward, having no more then one touché of advantage. Only in penultimate, eighth fight, Italian Luigi Tarantino defeated Romanian Cosmin Hanceanu – 6:2 –and managed to create a small break for his team mate Aldo Montano – 40:37. And the last could even increase the gap score – 45:39.

Thus, the Italian team won both «gold» of this competition’s day and has a confident lead in total with four highest awards.
